Notably, there are millions of blogs and websites out there. These bloggers and websites owners opened them for particular purposes primarily among them are; to sell products, rendering of services, and to create a platform where their voices could be heard freely without being molested.
However, many of these websites or blogs within a spate of time fizzle out due to frustration usually linked to inability of these bloggers or website owners to  make wave or get easily seen in the realm of blogging or website activities as the case may be, even though they may have beautiful blogs or websites.

The reason could be traced to inability of their blogs or websites to be listed in search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines are the main source for internet users to find the information they are interested or looking for. So if you’re your blog post is listed high in the search engine, it implies that more people will find you post when looking for a particular article or information you provided.
The search engines use several factors to determine blog post or website position in their listing. As a blog or website owner, understanding how the search engines work will tremendously help you to improve your ranking in its database.
In this post, I’m going to share with you some proven tips that you can start using to improve your blog or website listing on the search engines. Let’s get started.
1.     Writing post with relevant keywords for your blog or website
 
The word or phrase that people use when searching for information on the search engines is known as keyword. When an article is posted on the blog or the sales copy of the website contains relevant keywords, it will improve the chances of prospects finding your blog when they are looking for information either on your article, services or products. It is important to note that just flooding your article with keywords will be regarded as “keywords spamming”.
By optimizing your contents with relevant keywords will help your blog attract the search engine spiders on a regular basis. This, of course will generate more interest and attract more readership to you blog.
2.     Providing consistently quality content
In the realm of blogging, content is known as a king, and it’s everything on the internet. By providing consistently quality content to your visitors will improve your listing with the search engines. By doing this, it will encourage other blog owners to link with you, providing your blog or website with valuable hyperlinks.
Quality content will motivate your visitors to recommend your blog or website to other. For example, Linda Ikeji’s Blog is the popular and most-viewed blog in Nigeria. Many bloggers including myself had to add her blog to my blog list to also improve my blog’s readership.
3.     Create a newsletter for your website or blog
Do you agree with me that 80% of sales take place after the first contact? It’s important for every website or blog to have a newsletter to build relationship and fellow up with your prospects. It’s has been noted that percentage of sales goes up with each contact- the highest percentage being made after 5 to 7 contacts. In the case of blog, the blogger needs to create his tribe and build on that.
By making your newsletter relevant and with rich content, your readers and subscribers will visit your blog or sit regularly. This will increase your ranking with the search engines.
 
4.     Giving away free report on your blog or website
Interestingly, by giving away free report on your blog or website will attract more people to your blog or site. Give the free report to your visitors or customers for free and you will get the terrific traffic to your blog or website. The report should contain topic that is relevant and valuable to your visitors.
It may be place on your blog or website or alternatively send with an auto responder to your mailing list e-mail address.
5.     Submission to article directories
You can write articles on topic related to your blog or website and submit these articles to article directories. Many bloggers, website owners and newsletter publishers visit the directories to get article to use on their websites or blogs. They are mandated to use your articles with your resources box. That way, you will gain visitors to your blog or site and benefit from the hyperlinks that are created.
The article directories get spider by the search engines on a regular basis because of high value of the content they provide. For example, I was given a badge as Expert Author by Ezine Articles, after submitted like five articles with them. The badge which is conspicuously placed on the extreme right on my blog, when it’s clicked on, will link you to Ezine Article.com, the directory where good contents can be found.
6.     Be active in Forums
One of the powerful ways to get visitors to your blog or site and get listing from the search engines is to be active in the forums. Search for forums that discuss topics related to your blog or website. Make sure that your signature contains the link to either your blog or website. Then start posting information that will be relevant to members and offer free and valuable advice to solve member’s problem by responding to questions.
It’s a good strategy to establish credibility and attract traffic to your blog or website. The search engine spider visit forums regularly, that way it can pick on your blog or website.
7.     Press release
You can also promote your blog or website through press release. Press releases are notices to the media about newsworthy events, accomplishments or other information. With press release, you can also generate more traffic to your blog or website.
